I am Premier League

Yesterday I was an assistant referee in a FA Women's Premier League (Southern) match which was played at Winchester City FC as a floodlit night game. This is the highest league I have officiated in, so far. It is the second level in the Women's game in England. Not bad to end my refereeing season on a higher league match which was only a few weeks after being in a final.

This Weeks Training

This week I have done over 9 hours of training. It was slightly more on the running with over 505 of the time but 35% of the time was swimming including a session in a 50m pool. The cycle was relatively small at 15% but this was only a short ride and a 20km (12.6 miles) part of a duathlon.
This was my first multi sport event of the year. I was using the aero bars which did provide useful even in the slight headwind and managed to average 17 mph (27 kmh) for the course, this average was lowered by the time I spent in transition.
I did chase down a person in the last few hundred meters of the race and overtook him with just 1 step from the finish line. :-)
When refereeing the match I also had my GPS/HRM on, which surprisingly I did 5.7 miles (9.1km) during the match, although the overall pace was a lot slow there was a lot of speed bursts.

I will have a bit of rest now after having the Duathlon, long Swim and referee Match all on the same day.

Football Matches

I have also had a few more football matches to officiate in. In two separate county cups I have been a neutral assistant referee (aka linesman) in a semi-final and a final. In the final I even got presented with a boxed medal after the game which I was not expecting.

Training at Easter

Over the Easter break I did 4 days of 2 a day training sessions. That week I did over 9 hours of training with an appropriate proportion of training each of the three areas. However the following week I only managed 3.5 hours due to having a cold and over half this time was from the last day of 2 a day training sessions.

During the Easter training while cycling up a hill I got my first puncture which I was able to successfully replace the inner tube and get it all working back on my bike. Here are some more scenic photos where I got the puncture, photo 1, photo 2 and photo 3. When I was cycling I was able to use my aerobars for a while until the wind made it to unsafe to use on the main roads.

Even though I was in East Anglia there where a few hills, here are a couple that I run up, hill 1 and hill 2, and a hill I cycled up a number of times.

I also did a 1 mile swim in a 50m pool which was bootiful (sponsored by the food processing company). It did not use chlorine but UV filtration which made the water crystal clear and with no smell of chlorine, it was weird especially as a had a whole line to myself.

On a 7 mile run I went past the most easterly point on mainland Britain which is in Lowestoft. They have a Euroscope to mark this point and to show the distance to various places. There is also a big land based wind turbine near by, I took a few arty shots of this, from the coast (at the euroscope), near the base (behind a fence) and behind a gas tower.

I even stopped here for an ice cream but their shop closed to general public :-(

More Updates Later this week

I will be doing a lot more updates latter this week including some photos from the last two weeks training.

Sponsorship for The Stroke Association

I have also added a link on my blog to my sponsorship page on justgiving.com which I am raising money for The Stroke Association.

Update on Last Week

Last week I only managed 3.5 hours of training. This was due to my car being repaired and being unable to get to the training sessions. Of this training 90 minutes of this time was me being a football netural assistant referee (A.K.A. lino, linesman) at a county cup semi-final, this was a good speed session as I had to do a lot of bursts of speed on a fairly windy day.

However I have now fitted my cycle's aero bars to my bike and did a 30 minute ride to try them out. I will need to make some adjustments to my handlebar to be able to use them in a better position.

I am planning to do a few more sessions over the Easter holidays of all three areas, this will hopefully balance the carbo loading that may occur on Sunday. :-)
